Air-Fryer S’mores

A stack of four air fryer s'mores on a small plate with an air fryer in the backgorund.

You can make gluten-free s’mores in the air fryer in under 5 minutes with no campfire needed. The marshmallows toast to golden perfection while staying put on the graham crackers.

Just slice marshmallows in half and place them sticky side down so they don’t fly around in the air fryer. Top with chocolate after toasting and you’ll have melty s’mores that taste better than the oven or microwave method.

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • Ready in under 5 minutes so you can satisfy a s’mores craving any time without waiting for a campfire or turning on the oven
  • Marshmallows toast evenly in the air fryer and develop that golden brown exterior with a gooey center you can’t get in the microwave
  • Make as many or as few as you want since you can easily adjust the recipe to make one s’more or enough to fill your air fryer basket in a single layer

Ingredients

An overhead shot of three bowls filled with gluten-free graham crackers, peanut butter cups and hershey bars in another bowl, and marshmallows in the last bowl.

Ingredient Notes

  • gluten-free graham crackers – I used my homemade gluten-free graham crackers, but you can use store-bought or if you aren’t gluten-free like me, your favorite graham crackers.
  • marshmallows – You’ll want to use the regular marshmallows (large marshmallows), not the mini marshmallows, for this recipe. I think the extra jumbo marshmallows are also too big since they do puff up in the air fryer a bit and will overpower the graham crackers.
  • chocolate – I used a combination of chocolate bars (Hershey’s bars) and peanut butter cups for this recipe. You can use any chocolate you wish. Use about 1 ounce of chocolate for each s’more.

Tip

Slice marshmallows in half and place sticky side down on graham crackers or they’ll fly off in the air fryer. The exposed sticky center adheres to the graham cracker and keeps everything in place.

Step-by-Step Instructions

If you don’t have a campfire or bonfire, air fryer smores are the next best thing! They’re ready in just a few minutes and SO good! This is one of my favorite air fryer dessert recipes because it is so simple!

Expert Tips

  • Start checking at 2 minutes. Different air fryer models cook at different rates. Check your marshmallows at the 2-minute mark to make sure they’re still on the graham crackers and not getting too dark. If they need more time after 4 minutes, continue air frying in 1-minute increments.
  • Add chocolate immediately after toasting. The hot marshmallows will start melting the chocolate right away. If you wait too long the marshmallows will cool down and the chocolate won’t get as melty.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make more or less than 4 s’mores?

Yes! Feel free to make more or less s’mores in your air fryer. I’ve made just one before for myself and more to feed guests. I find my air fryer can accommodate about 9 s’mores at most.

Are air fryer s’mores gluten-free?

No. Traditional s’mores contain graham crackers made with wheat flour. This recipe uses gluten-free graham crackers, making the s’mores gluten-free. If you don’t follow a gluten-free diet, use regular graham crackers.

Why did my marshmallows fly off the graham crackers?

The marshmallows weren’t secured properly. Always slice marshmallows in half and place the sticky cut side down on the graham crackers. The exposed sticky center acts as glue and keeps the marshmallows in place during air frying.

Can I use chocolate chips instead of chocolate bars?

No. Chocolate chips don’t melt well and will fall off the s’mores. Use chocolate bars, peanut butter cups, or even fudge sauce or Nutella spread on the top graham cracker instead.

Serving Suggestions

Turn air fryer s’mores into a full S’mores Board by setting up a toppings station on your kitchen counter with bowls of customizable toppings. Make a batch of air fryer s’mores as your base, then set out extra chocolate bars, peanut butter cups, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, Nutella Ganache, Strawberry Coulis, and Macerated Strawberries so everyone can add their favorite flavors.

Serve S’mores Dip with extra Gluten-Free Graham Crackers on the side for people who want to dip instead of making individual s’mores in the air fryer. Keep a platter of Gluten-Free S’mores Bars nearby for anyone who prefers a handheld version without the mess of melted chocolate and gooey marshmallows.

Instructions

  • Arrange graham crackers. Place 4 graham cracker squares in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Slice marshmallows. Cut each marshmallow in half horizontally to expose the sticky center. Place 2 marshmallow halves sticky side down on each graham cracker square. The sticky surface will keep them from flying around during air frying.
  • Air fry. Air fry at 380°F for 3-4 minutes until the marshmallows are golden brown and toasted.
  • Add chocolate. Immediately place one chocolate square or peanut butter cup on top of each toasted marshmallow while they're still hot.
  • Top and serve. Place the remaining graham cracker squares on top of the chocolate. Carefully remove from the air fryer using a spatula and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Nutrition Information: Nutrition information is an estimate based on s’mores made with peanut butter cups. Depending on the graham crackers and chocolate you use, calories and nutrition may vary.
  • Air Fryer Timing: Different air fryer models cook at different rates. Start checking at 2 minutes to make sure marshmallows haven’t gotten too dark or blown off the graham crackers. If they need more time after 4 minutes, continue in 1-minute increments.
  • Marshmallow Trick: Don’t skip slicing the marshmallows in half. The exposed sticky center adheres to the graham crackers and prevents them from flying off in the air fryer.
  • Gluten-Free Graham Crackers: Use store-bought gluten-free graham crackers or make homemade Gluten-Free Graham Crackers. Regular graham crackers work if you don’t follow a gluten-free diet.
  • Scaling: Make as many or as few s’mores as your air fryer basket can hold in a single layer. Most standard models fit 4 s’mores comfortably, but larger air fryers can hold up to 9 s’mores.
  • Storage: Air fryer s’mores don’t store well. Only make as many as you plan to eat immediately since they get hard and lose their gooey texture once they cool down.
