Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup basil leaves
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water and basil leaves.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
- Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean glass bottle or jar, discarding the basil leaves. Press the basil leaves into the sieve to extract all the flavor.
- Store the basil simple syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use. Use within two weeks.
