This easy basil simple syrup recipe is made with just 3 ingredients. It’s perfect for sweetening cocktails, iced tea, lemonade, or even drizzling over fruit salads and desserts for an added herbal twist.

Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water and basil leaves.
Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 5 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean glass bottle or jar, discarding the basil leaves. Press the basil leaves into the sieve to extract all the flavor.
Store the basil simple syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use. Use within two weeks.
Notes
This recipe makes approximately 1.5 cups of simple syrup. The nutritional calculations are based on a serving of 24 (1/2 oz) portions.
If you want to extend its shelf life, you can freeze the syrup in ice cube trays and store the cubes in a freezer-safe bag for up to six months.
Always check the syrup for any signs of spoilage before use. Discard if you notice any off smells, cloudiness, or mold.
