Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  • Add all of the spices to a small bowl.
  • Whisk together until combined.
  • Pour the spice mixture into a small jar and store until ready to use.
  • Use about 2 tablespoons of spice blend in place of a full packet of taco seasoning.

Notes

  • This gluten-free taco seasoning mixture makes a scant ½ cup (7 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons) of spice blend. This will give you about 4 servings assuming that you are using 1 ounce (about 2 tablespoons) of spice mixture per recipe, which is the amount you’ll find in a store-bought packet of taco seasoning.
  • Always double check that your spices are gluten-free in case there are any allergen statements or warnings about cross contact on manufacturing lines or equipment that are shared with wheat or other gluten-containing grains. As long as you use gluten-free spices, your taco seasoning will be gluten-free!
  • The red pepper flakes are optional. If you don’t like a little kick to your taco seasoning, you can omit it. I sometimes do this so I have a versatile blend and can add some red pepper flakes while I’m cooking depending on what I’m making and who I am serving.
  • Instead of red pepper flakes, you can also add ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper for some heat.
  • I like to store my spice blends in a small spice jar. Don’t forget to label it and add the date so that you don’t forget about it in your cupboard.
