Heres a fun little craft for you all. My roommates have a habit of making huge dinners and eating them straight from the pot or pan (cough cough.. Nathan..) and they bring all of our trivets and pot holders over to the living room to eat in front of the TV. Needless to say, I figured out pretty quickly that 2 pot holders just wasn’t going to cut it. I’ve been on a huge Dollar Store kick lately (cheap crafts are kinda my thing) and when I saw a bag of dollar rocks for just a dollar I knew exactly what I was going to do with them. You guessed it! River rock trivets. So far, these have held up fairly well. I had a rock fall off the first day I used them but I’m thinking I just didn’t use enough glue on the rock originally, because since then, they’ve been just fine and dandy. I think these are super cute and even worthy of being used when you have company! I can’t wait to make some placemats with the same method!
bag of river rocks (you won’t use them all for just 1 trivet though)
square cork mat (about 1′ x 1′)
Take a pot and place on top of your square cork mat. Trace around the bottom of the pot onto the cork with a pencil. Cut out the cork circle. Place a piece felt on top of the cork circle and trace it so that it’s the same size as the cork circle. Then, cut out that circle. Glue the felt to the cork with a glue gun. Let dry. Then with the hot glue gun, glue the rocks to the top of the felt in any pattern you want. It works better if you have flatter stones so keep that in mind when planning your design. Let dry.
