You know what I used to love? Shamrock Shakes from McDonalds.

They were hands down the best part of the few weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. I’m not sure if it’s that Winter was almost over, and you could almost smell Spring in the air… or if it’s just that minty deliciousness that just made it so great. Probably a combination to be honest.

But, I’ll tell you what I don’t love about Shamrock Shakes. The ingredients! There’s a whole lot of ingredients in just the shamrock shake syrup alone. Shouldn’t it just be mint that’s making that shake minty? You would think, right? Apparently Not!

So we set out to make a shake reminiscent of the fast food favorite that was only a few ingredients and not to mention dairy-free, gluten-free and sugar-free to meet my dietary restrictions. And by golly I think we’ve done it! Is it spot on? No. But will it still make you happy as you drink it? Oh heck yes.

It’s creamy, minty, slightly sweet and a whole lot of delicious! We loved how these turned out. We made them multiple times with fresh mint leaves and mint extract and loved our shakes both ways! I personally enjoyed doing mint leaves with a drop of mint extract just to make sure it was minty enough. But whichever way you choose, you’ll have a delightful shake ready in minutes that’s practically guilt-free!
