DIY Mustache Mugs and a Giveaway!

Sharing is caring!

I don’t know what it is about mustaches but they’re all over the place right now for home decor. My younger sister, Katie, went to the University of Illinois for college and there’s this bar there that has mustache glasses on certain nights. I really don’t know the details. I just know that I love this picture of her. It’s super cute.

Ever since I saw this picture, I’ve wanted a mustache glass. When I saw a pin on Pinterest about DIY Sharpie mugs, I knew exactly what I wanted to make: mustache mugs. However, after further research I found out that the mugs weren’t dishwasher safe. So I decided to do my own experimenting. I grabbed some white mugs and a sharpie and went to work. Instead of baking at 350F like most tutorials, I decided to bake mine at a higher temperature of 450F for 30 minutes. I’ve run my mugs through the dishwasher a few times and they’re still going strong. I also did a few with a porcelain pen and those are also dishwasher safe. I liked the porcelain pen because it didn’t show every stroke that I made when I was drawing the mustaches like the Sharpie marker did.

Now for the fun part! I’m having a giveaway! I’m giving away the four mugs that are shown below. I did these with the porcelain pen and they are dishwasher safe. It is recommended that you don’t drink from the side with the mustache on it for safety reasons. Plus you won’t have a fun mustache when you drink your coffee if you do it that way!

GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED! THANKS TO ALL OF THOSE WHO ENTERED!

The Winner is…. LIZ! But wait… I decided to pick another winner at random! And the second winner is… JOHN!

Liz
I love the mugs! I would definitely go with a Ron Swanson mustache, because if you’re going for a mustache, it might as well be as manly as possible.

And I followed on Facebook and Pinterest too!

John
I’d probably go with the classic Van Dyke beard/mustache combination, partly for the classical look, but also because you’ve got enough there to twirl if you’re bored, without coming off as Snidely Whiplash.

Thanks for entering Liz and John! I’ll be in contact with you both so you can receive your mustache mugs!

 The Details:

One (1) winner will receive 4 decorated mustache mugs.

Here’s how to enter:

To enter, leave me a comment on the bottom of this post answering the following question: If you could have any mustache what would it be? Or, what is your favorite kind of mustache?

Giveaway ends Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 6:00 PM Central Standard Time.

The giveaway is only open to those in the continental U.S.. Sorry international followers! The winner will be chosen at random using Random.org and emailed on Sunday night.

Supplies:

4 white ceramic mugs

Sharpie marker or porcelain pen

Directions:

Thoroughly clean the surface of your mug. Draw your design onto your mug carefully. If you mess up, wipe off with a wet paper towel and start over. Place mugs onto a baking sheet. Place baking sheet in a unheated oven. Turn the temperature to 450F. When the oven is preheated, set the timer for 30 minutes. When the time is up, turn the oven off and crack the oven door until the mugs are cooled.

If using a porcelain pen, make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Some are very specific about the temperature of the oven and the amount of time you have to let them sit before baking.

  1. Haha that was an interesting surprise.. seeing my mustachioed face on your blog. Love the mugs, though!! Oh and I realized that I hadn’t subscribed by email, so I did that. I’m all set on the other social networks, but I’m guessing sisters aren’t eligible for this give-away. Guess I’ll have to wait for Christmas or something. =)

  2. These are awesome! The best mustache (well for girls none) is a long one that you can twirl the ends up in a nice swirling design. Very classy 😉
